What's new?

Well for starters, it's been awhile since WINOC has issued a COMMUNICATOR. In the good old days (a k a before the manufacturing downturn) WINOC's crack staff would periodically produce a six-page tri-fold hardcopy newsletter called the WINOC Communicator. In its rebirth we will stick to two or three pages, provide ample links to additional information, make it available electronically and post it to our website... www.winoc.org.

Also new is our new address (see sidebar). Although we worked cooperatively with Tri-C/WEDD in an informal relationship for nearly two-years, and will continue to do so, in the absence of a formal agreement, and given their need for the space we were in, we have moved on. Since our client work is almost exclusively on-site, not much else is affected by this move.

WINOC's Board

WINOC's new Chairman, Dr. Hira Fotedar, has been busier than ever with WINOC after his recent retirement from Eaton. He is engaged in strategic planning, new marketing strategies and in promoting WINOC throughout northeast Ohio.

WINOC's Board of Trustees and its Executive Committee is also undergoing change; for example, Dr. Bud Gookins, President of Strategic Quality Consulting in Grafton, Ohio has been recently added to the Board. See the sidebar for the current makeup of WINOC's Board of Trustees Executive Committee.

Manufacturing Roadmap Project

WINOC, through its Chairman and Vice-Chairman, is participating in the Global Roadmap for Manufacturing in Northeast Ohio project. This project, led by local and Ohio business executives and supported by the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the Cleveland Foundation, is aimed at helping businesses in the region reposition their products and strategies to compete more effectively in the new global marketplace.

WINOC hopes to be a coordinating agency for the implementation of the Roadmap, as funded by the Fund for OUR Economic Future.

The Northeast Ohio Center for Labor Management Cooperation (NOCLMC)

WINOC has been operating the Northeast Ohio Center for Labor Management Cooperation (NOCLMC) since 1986 as part of the Ohio Labor Management Cooperation Program (OLMCP) sponsored through grants from the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD). WINOC was recently awarded increased funding to continue to operate the mission of the Center (see sidebar) for the next two years.

Partnering with nine other grantees across Ohio, WINOC works with management and organized labor to drive quality and productivity improvement through employee involvement. WINOC's labor management cooperation capabilities represent distinctive competencies for northeast Ohio.

WINOC Partners

In addition other OLMCP grantees across Ohio, WINOC is expanding its network of partners in northeast Ohio. WINOC Advisors such as Rick Bohan (Bohan Associates) and Pat McGreevy (PME Consulting) and others continue to provide valuable services to WINOC clients. In addition WINOC has more recently joined forces with RHS Solutions, Jim Gray of JPG Management Group, Brian Furlong of Lean Enterprises, Inc., Bud Gookins of Strategic Quality Systems and Hira Fotedar (Fotedar and Associates) and others for project specific work.

With our partners we can cover it all: organizational development, assessment, quality systems, risk and safety, Lean Manufacturing, Lean Office, turnaround, employee involvement, creating the high performance enterprise, labor management cooperation, strategic planning. See http://www.winoc.org/services.html for more.
