WINOC has been applying its quality improvement through employee involvement expertise to the benefit of northeast Ohio manufacturers for twenty-five years. Though TQM initiatives have been replaced with Lean initiatives, WINOC's model for serving manufacturers hasn't changed much over the years. As expressed in WINOC's 1997 book People Make the Difference, WINOC's model for working with those who want to survive and thrive is assessment, followed by leadership engagement, performance improvement planning, and facilitated deployment and implementation of quality initiatives... all aimed at creating high performance teams and organizations. We can and have supported manufacturers in the following areas. Public Programs [Right Panel] Quality Systems Implementation
WINOC's Baldrige related services include comprehensive on-site Baldrige assessments, Ohio Award for Excellence Application support, Baldrige/OAE feedback action planning facilitation and Baldrige training. WINOC has a number of Education and Training offerings to support our work with manufacturers, from quality tools training to management training/leadership training. Click here for details. WINOC has a long heritage of working with manufacturers to improve labor management cooperation through employee involvement. Much of our public programs work (see right panel) is subsidized through a grant from the Ohio Labor Management Cooperation Program (OLMCP), which funds WINOC's operation of the Northeast Ohio Center for Labor Management Cooperation (NEOLMC). Please visit the Center at www.neoclmc.winoc.org. WINOC has worked with clients in the area of leadership development in a number of respects. Our improvement model emphasizes leadership engagement. Our labor management work emphasized cooperation of company and union leaders. We have a long history of providing team leader, supervisor, manager and leadership training. We work with company executives as coaches, as many of WINOC's Advisors have themselves been top company executives. Key to WINOC's Lean Model, WINOC's Strategic Planning model and WINOC's Total Quality Process (TQP) model is assessment. WINOC has extensive assessment experience. A number of WINOC experts have comprehensive Baldrige assessment experience, haven served as Baldrige examiners at the national and state level. WINOC has developed its own interviewing-based Baldrige assessment approach that does not require an Application and is very short-cycle compared to the Baldrige/OAE approach. WINOC has conducted Lean Assessments with client-prescribed assessment instruments and with its own assessment instrument. For a description of WINOC's Lean Assessment instrument click here. WINOC's Lean Model is assessment followed by Leadership Lean Education, then Leadership Planning, Lean Initiatives and Evaluation. Click here for more detail. You can download a description of the Lean Assessment methodology here. WINOC can provide a full range of Lean Manufacturing services through its Advisors, its partners (e.g., Lean Enterprise, Inc.) and through The Cleveland Alliance (TCA). You find much more information on WINOC's Lean Manufacturing engagements in the Information Center. WINOC can help you with your product development process in a number of ways: applying Lean methods to the product development process, integrating product development into your business system, applying a simultaneous engineering approach to your product development process, and applying Quality Function Deployment methods to design products that meet customer requirements. Public Programs WINOC's public programs are focused on support to manufacturers. See the right panel. Quality Systems Implementation WINOC works with its partner Strategic Quality Consulting to provide quality systems implementation support. To learn more go to The Cleveland Alliance at www.TCA.winoc.org. Though always customized to meet the needs of the client, WINOC's approach to strategic planning is to address strategic thinking first, then strategic planning (followed by action planning and implementation). The purpose of strategic thinking, as a prerequisite to strategic planning, is to understand your current state. We use a Baldrige-based or Lean Assessment methodology to assess the current state. Through strategic planning we develop strategic objectives and strategies to achieve those objectives. Click here for the WINOC Strategic Planning Model. WINOC's TQM approach is called Total Quality Process (TQP). TQP is described in detail in the book People Make the Difference. Haven comprehensively implemented TQP with the Lamson & Sessions Company, it is a well proven approach. It its highest level the Approach is Assessment, Leadership Engagement, Performance Improvement Planning, Deployment and Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
